The Best Halloween Candy?

Written By Maxine Snead

When I think of Halloween, I think of costumes, candy, and jump scares. Walking around the neighborhood, collecting all kinds of candy, and seeing everyone’s amazing costumes is one of the best parts of the night. When you go up to a door, knock, and say “trick or treat,” what candy do you hope to see dropped into your bag?

My ELA class took a vote on everyone’s favorite Halloween candy. We gave them ten options: Twix, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Whoppers, Snickers, Milky Way, Skittles, Twizzlers, M&Ms, Starburst, and Kit Kats.

In first place, the most liked candy in my class is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with 14 votes. This chocolate cup is filled to the brim with peanut butter and coated in milk chocolate. In second place is Twix with 11 votes. The bar features a crunchy cookie, a layer of caramel, and a milk chocolate coating. In third place is M&Ms with 8 votes. These colorful candies have a hard sugar shell and a variety of fillings, including milk chocolate, peanut, peanut butter, and almond.

In fourth place is Skittles with 4 votes. They’re chewy, fruit-flavored candies with a hard sugar shell and the letter “S” printed on each piece. Finally, there’s a three-way tie for fifth place with 2 votes each: Snickers, Milky Way, and Whoppers. A Snickers bar is made with nougat, caramel, roasted peanuts, and milk chocolate. The Milky Way is another favorite, with its nougat, caramel, and chocolate layers.

Halloween may be about costumes and scares, but let’s be honest—candy is the real winner of the night!
