Have you ever thought about the future of AI as its power increases? Have you ever wondered about it becoming too powerful? If so you aren’t alone, and with the path that AI is on, its future warrants a discussion.
The Rise Of AI
The prominence of artificial intelligence has been on a steep climb the past few years, especially after Open AI launched a program called “Chat GPT”. Chat GPT has been the harbinger of artificial intelligence’s quick ascent to power. Chat GPT is a program where you can converse with artificial intelligence to learn, ask questions, and more. However the origins of AI go way back before Chat GPT, all the way to the 1950s! In 1950, English mathematician Alan Turing presented the question “Can machines think?” in his paper “Computing Machinery and Intelligence.” Turing later presented the ‘Turing Test’ to figure out if a machine is capable of thinking or not. Turing is now revered as the father of AI, and his work has inspired many discoveries and advancements in our world today.
The Power of AI Today
Present day, AI is a very strong force on our world and the way it functions. Artificial intelligence is used in many fields including medicine, engineering, and many others. According to Stanford University, the FDA has approved 233 medical devices as of 2023, compared to 6 devices in 2015. This advancement from the medical field goes to show how fast the strength of AI is rising in society today. However, through all of the advancements made with AI, the way it functions raises high ethical concerns and environmental risks. Artificial intelligence can inherit biases from their base data which can lead to discrimination and unfair elimination in job applications and leadership. As for the environment, AI uses over 5 million gallons of water per day according to the EESI. The reasons provided just scratch the surface of the way AI functions today even through all of its innovative advancements.
The Future of AI
Artificial intelligence is a very powerful force behind innovation and discovery and will continue to strive that way. According to Markets and Markets, the AI market will be valued at 1,345.2 billion dollars by 2030. That’s a huge leap from the market value today at just 424.5 billion dollars! As for the ethics and environmental impacts of AI, Gizma University states that “The future of AI ethics will involve stricter regulations, better standards and more interdisciplinary efforts to ensure that AI is used responsibly.” This means that programmers are looking for better ways to make sure that AI is more ethical, sustainable, and fair. Therefore, AI will continue to rise in the future monetarily, beneficially, and ethically.
To conclude, AI is a very strong and powerful part of our society and will continue to rise and grow in the future. Through hardships and ethical challenges, AI has hopes to become environmentally beneficial, equitable, and continuing to provide new advancements every day. How do you think AI will impact our future?
