Student Council is a club that students can run for at the beginning of the school year. This year, more than 16 seventh graders were in the running. The students who won for their team were Andrew Brown, Ashton W., and Francesca Prati.
To vote, students went onto a Google Form and selected one person from their own team and two people from other teams. To qualify to run, candidates needed 10 student signatures, 3 teacher signatures, and a campaign slide with their photo and information about their interests, activities, and school involvement.
So far this year, the Student Council has held at least three meetings. This past Tuesday, the school hosted two Schools to Watch (STW) volunteers, who joined the Student Council meeting during 7th and 8th periods. On Monday, 7th graders went to the library during lunch to make welcome cards for 10 of the STW visitors. The 8th graders made cards during their lunch period as well.
At the start of the meeting, everyone introduced themselves and shared their favorite things about the school. My answer was how many language options we get to take in 7th grade, which we didn’t have in earlier years. We also talked about all the ways students can get involved and how Student Council gives us a voice to share ideas and concerns.
We ended the meeting by discussing our ticket program and SAMS Time, two great ways for students to stay active in the school community. It’s been a great start to the year for Student Council, and everyone is excited to see what’s next!
