Halloween is almost here, and that means candy time! Picture this: you’re out in your coolest costume, running from house to house, excited to see what treats you’ll get. This article examines the ten best Halloween candies (so you know what to trade for) and what candies you should leave in the bottom of your bag. Get ready for some sweet (and not-so-sweet) surprises!
Best Halloween Candies
Watermelon Sour Patch Kids – Watermelon Sour Patch Kids are amazing because they have a sour outside and a chewy sweet inside! You just want to keep eating them until you have to stop. Kids will beg to get these in their baskets—that’s how delicious this candy really is!
Jolly Ranchers – Have you ever wanted to enjoy one flavor for a long time? Jolly Ranchers are perfect for that! With tons of flavors, including tropical ones, these candies are the ideal size to keep for a while. They’re way better than lollipops with those annoying sticks. Give Jolly Ranchers a try—you won’t regret it!
Airheads – Is there a better candy than Airheads? We don’t think so! They’re chewy and super tasty, thin, long, and stretchy. They come in many flavors, with blue raspberry being a favorite. They stick to your teeth, but in a good way! If you get this candy for Halloween, eat it right away!
Nerd Gummy Clusters – Have you ever tasted anything better? Nerd Gummy Clusters are covered in a sweet, crunchy layer of Nerds, creating a unique taste. You’ll keep eating them until you can’t anymore!
Skittles – Skittles? AMAZING!! They come in all the best flavors and taste awesome! They’re chewy and flavorful, plus they come in different size packs. They’re small and perfect for a snack break!
M&Ms – M&Ms are classic! With their crunchy chocolate shell and delicious chocolate inside, they’re a favorite for kids. They come in so many colors and styles that everyone loves them, and kids hope to find them in their Halloween bags!
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – Is there a better combo than chocolate and peanut butter? We don’t think so! These are a Halloween tradition and one of the best candies out there. We especially love the jagged ridges on the cups.
Swedish Fish – Is there a better chewy fish candy? No! Swedish Fish are chewy and delicious. The cherry flavor and soft, easy-to-chew texture are amazing!
Chocolate Hershey Bars – Need that one candy to satisfy your sweet tooth? Hershey bars are perfect! Every kid goes through their stash looking for these, and they’re usually the first candy to disappear. They’re a number one favorite that everyone wants to get their hands on!

Smarties – Smarties are great! They’re sweet, small, soft, and easy to chew. They’re a little dusty, which is unique for candy! These come in different sizes, too. Although they aren’t as popular today, we still enjoy them a lot!
Worst Halloween Candies
Almond Joy – Have you ever had to throw out all the bad candy? Almond Joys are definitely on that list. No kid I know likes them! The coconut filling is a big yuck! Kids usually give these to their parents after trying them once. Almond Joys are a terrible candy to get. Do you agree?
Milk Duds – Milk Duds? I could go on about them all day! I’ve never seen a kid eat these on Halloween. They stick to your teeth and have a weird texture. The taste? A mix of fake chocolate and rotten fudge. I hope I never see a kid eat these again.
Dots – Dots are just disgusting! They stick to your teeth, and the flavors are awful. Plus, there are only about five in each box! They’re a waste of money and space, especially when you throw away old candy. That’s why Dots are not a great choice!

Black Licorice – Have you ever tried a candy that shouldn’t be eaten? Black licorice definitely falls into that category! It tastes terrible and will probably make you want to throw up. This flavor should be banned or just thrown away!

Candy Corn – Candy corn? Disgusting! With a hard, smooth outside and terrible taste inside, it’s one of the worst candies ever! It tastes like orange soda mixed with red Starbursts and toast. If you ever get this candy, just throw it out or give it to someone you do not like!

Publisher’s note: Mr. Duermeyer’s Period 3 WIN class collaborated to write this story. They were given the assigment’s directions (WRITE a 300-500 word story about a Halloween theme) and were tasked with researching, organizing, and composing the final story, which was published here with few changes.
