If you have an interest in the United States Military, there is a fantastic museum in Dayton, Ohio. The trip takes about four hours from Pittsburgh, but it would be well worth it for anyone who is interested in the United States Air Force.
During spring break, my dad, grandpa and I toured the National Museum of the United States Airforce. According to its website, the museum celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023, but many people may not even know it is there. Much of our military is celebrated in D.C., but the National Air Force Museum is in Ohio.
This photo essay shows some of the 350 aerospace vehicles and missiles that span 20 indoor acres at the museum. The sizes of the spacecrafts stood out. Some of the places were way larger than I had expected. Even the WWII single seater fighter plans are bigger than most pickup trucks.

The museum is home to a WWII era P39 fighter jet.
The WWII German BK-5 was adapted from a tank gun.
The museum has a captured German Fw 109D-9 plane.
The Tiny Me 163B “Komet” was a German aircraft.

There are hundreds of more planes and thousands of military artifacts at the museum. Each hanger can take a while to walk through. The hangers range have older planes from WWI and WWII and more recent ones from the Cold War and Vietnam. Some of the planes are open to be touched or sat in, such as the cockpit of a F-111. There are enough artifacts at the museum to make a day of it.
