The good times continued to roll on Wednesday, March 13, as seventh graders participated in an early Pi Day (3.13) celebration and a World Language Day assembly.
The seventh grade math department planned most of the event, which featured Eat n Park cookies instead of traditional pies, a showing of Disney’s Moana, an open-gym basketball game, and board games in the library.
Students qualified for the math incentive based on behavior and academics. Those failing two or more classes or those who were suspended were excluded. Behavior was positive and a good time was had by all who participated.
During Periods 3 and 4, the students shifted gears for this year’s World Language Day. The event was run by the language department with help from students from the high school.
The district’s Latin, Spanish, French, and Japanese programs took center stage, as SAMS students rotated through activities, events, and games related to the languages. Seventh graders will soon have the opportunity to apply for an 8th-grade language class, with those who earned strong grades in ELA being given priority.
World Language Day is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about 8th grade offerings and the programs that are featured at the High School. Many SAMS students who join a language program move on to advanced language classes in grades 9-12.
Students will have one more discipline-based incentive, when the history department sponsors Medieval Day later this spring.
